Lebrecht December 2008 Newsletter

Lebrecht has added two new outstanding collections this month.

POSTER ART from the Soviet Union, ranging from the days of the Russian Revolution in 1917 until modern times, can now be viewed at http://www.lebrecht.co.uk. Posters have featured heavily as a means of communication and as an outlet for artists during the Communist regime and after. The subjects range from revolution, civil war, collectivisation, anti-drinking campaigns, and through to sports and space travel. These superb examples of graphic arts reflect artistic movements throughout the 20th century.

DRAMA archive from the first thirty five years of the twentieth century.

These eye-catching images cover British productions of the great classics by Shakespeare and Bernard Shaw; contemporary playwrights such as Ivor Novello, Noel Coward and Edgar Wallace; actors include Henry Irving, John Gielgud, Fay Compton, Laurence Olivier, Gracie Fields, Stanley Lupino. The style of acting in this 35 year period required much dramatic effort on the part of the actors in their attempt to convey to their audiences the passion and allure of their characters.
