Russian Collection highlights – POLITICAL POSTERS & ADVERTISING

Bold graphic posters have always been an important part of Russian visual life.  Beautifully-designed posters exhort people to come to a ball, to support the war effort, to assist the poor and needy, to defeat  the Germans during WWII and the neighbouring countries during the Soviet era.  Adverts extol the virtues of cocoa, smoking, new factories, breweries, films, exhibitions and theatre performances. Health posters raise awareness of the effects of alcohol and the fight against tuberculosis. These fascinating works of art cover all the minutiae of social and political life in pre and post Revolutionary times.
