Michal Shapiro has been filming world music for Lebrecht Music & Arts Photo Library blog at the the FES FESTIVAL OF WORLD SACRED MUSIC, June 2010. She takes us around the city of Fes which provides a dramatic and exotic backdrop for the festival and in this video provides excerpts from performances by the Sufi Ensemble Mtendeni Maulid from Zanzibar; the Young Gotipuras Dancers from India performing ritual acrobatic dance from the temples of Orissa. Amadou and Mariam, the blind singers from Mali on the main stage, Issawas of Fes with Abdellah Yaacoubi performing at the public space Bab Boujloud; Chefchaounia Hadra directed by Lalla Rhoum El Bakkali with an all female ensemble from Chaouen in northern Morocco.
