Art Images at Lebrecht: Art Nouveau – The Rise of the Decorative Arts

One of the highlights of Art Images at Lebrecht is the Art Nouveau images we represent. Art Nouveau arose at the turn of the 20th Century and was particularly associated with the Decorative Arts. A reaction to academic art of the 19th century, it is characterised by beautiful organic forms, especially floral and other plant-inspired motifs, as well as highly stylised, flowing curvilinear forms.

In the collection are vibrant examples of the Art Nouveau style, including poster designs by Alphonse Mucha, Théophile Alexandre Steinlen, and artwork from the German magazine ‘Jugend’. Please click here to view a lightbox:
