Art Images at Lebrecht: The Renaissance – The Rebirth of Classical Thinking

Art Images at Lebrecht provides a wide-ranging resource for Renaissance art. In late 14th century Italy, the Renaissance saw the rebirth of Classical humanist thinking. Lasting until the 17th century, the Renaissance provided a bridge between the Medieval and the modern world. Alongside great leaps in scientific thinking, literature and music, came huge changes in art, with the development of perspective, the use of oil paints, and change in subject matter away from the principally religious. Patronage now not only came from the church but also from the noblemen of Italy.

Included in the collection are great works by Italian Masters: Giotto, da Vinci, Michelangelo, Bellini, and Titian, amongst others. Please click here to view a lightbox:

Art Images at Lebrecht: Cubism and the Avant-garde

Art Images at Lebrecht represents a broad selection of early 20th century European paintings. Cubism ushered in a new era in art and led the way for other avant-garde movements, such as Futurism and Constructivism. A new aesthetic of fractured forms became the perfect visual expression of the rapidly changing modern world.

Included in the collection are great works by Braque, Picasso, Leger, Metzinger, Balla, Boccioni, Malevich and Goncharova, amongst others.

Art Images at Lebrecht: The Middle Ages – Religion and Austerity

One of the collection strengths of Art Images at Lebrecht is our vast array of Medieval imagery. Beautiful art and architecture from Medieval Europe, spanning the period between the 5th and 15th centuries, chart the rise of the Romanesque and Gothic styles. Our images include magnificent illuminated manuscripts from the 13th, 14th and 15th centuries, scenes from the Bayeux Tapestry and stone carvings from Notre Dame Cathedral. Art Images at Lebrecht: Art Nouveau – The Rise of the Decorative Arts

One of the highlights of Art Images at Lebrecht is the Art Nouveau images we represent. Art Nouveau arose at the turn of the 20th Century and was particularly associated with the Decorative Arts. A reaction to academic art of the 19th century, it is characterised by beautiful organic forms, especially floral and other plant-inspired motifs, as well as highly stylised, flowing curvilinear forms.

In the collection are vibrant examples of the Art Nouveau style, including poster designs by Alphonse Mucha, Théophile Alexandre Steinlen, and artwork from the German magazine ‘Jugend’. Please click here to view a lightbox:
